Fashion Is Never Bottomless Charity Benefit Gains Outstanding Support

The Bloggers Soiree will be hosting a charity benefit for Bottomless Closet NYC called "Fashion is Never Bottomless" on Monday, December 13 7:00PM at Soiree Nightclub on 199 Bowery St New York, NY 10002. The group hopes to raise over $3,000 for Bottomless Closet NYC, a non-profit organization providing clothing, resume writing services, workshops, financial management, and professional development services to disadvantaged women in New York City.

American's Old West was tamed by rugged visionaries who crossed the fruited plains in covered wagons, carrying with them everything they owned, and rolling away in search of new horizons. These pioneers - fiercely independent and wildly creative - carved out a lifestyle still evident in American today...

....in our nations' trailer parks.

As our vast melting pot of a country evolved, so did the covered wagon. Large wagon wheels and stretched animal skins gave way to steel belted tires and aluminum siding. Many of these mobile homes eventually rolled up to their desired horizons, and communities developed, dotting the landscape. Families grew out of these communities. Until today, million of Americans count themselves amoung a proud and select group known as trailer park dwellers.

One of these proud Americans is songwriter and humorist Antsy McClain. Growing up in a small Kentucky trailer park called Pine View Heights, McClain had what he calls "a memorable and idyllic childhood," filled with colorful characters and extraordinary events. Life in Pine View Heights has given McClain a wealth of experience from which to draw - and write. Penning the lyrics and msic to seven Trailer Park Troubadour albums, as well as hi own, critically-acclaimed solo record, "Time-Sweetened Lies," McClain is fast becoming one of the most respected songwriters in Americana/Roots music today.

McClain grew up hearing all styles of music in Pine View Heights. Antsy (whose given name was Ronnie Joe - the nickname "Antsy" being pronounced upon him by a junior high school couch) devoured every kind of music he could find. He listened to everything from Bill Monroe to Aretha Franklin, from Steely Dan to George Jones, until eventually, he was more confused than most of his peers, who listened strictly to 70's commercial pop radio. This confusion formed the basis for his songwriting, and explains the almost schizophrenic nature of his recording projects. Late nights listening to diverse radio programs like The Grand Ol' Opry and Dr. Demento further cemented his unique outlook toward music and entertainment.

Anty's 5-piece band, The Trailer Park Troubadours are a skilled assortment of musicians who play in the rootsy, rock and roll tradition of their hard-working, blue collar forefathers. McClain calls the music "folkabilly," and their live shows are a unique, critically-acclaimed mix of masterful musicianship and self-deprecating humor for all ages. What is Tech Trek?

Tech Trek is a math and science summer camp designed to encourage young women going into the 8th grade to continue their interest in science and math. The camp features hands-on activities in core subjects in math, science and technology during the day and evening programs in fields such as astronomy, engineering, marine biology and environmental biology.

Camps are held at various locations throughout California. Campers are chosed by their local AAUW branch to attend the camp nearest them. Tech Trek has been held since 1998 and the campers from the local Benicia/Vallejo Branch of AAUW attend camp at Mills College in Oakland.

The American Association of University Women Benicia/Vallejo Branch has made a commitment ot end the maximum allowable number of campers for a local branch. The local Benicia/Vallejo branch will coordinate the selection of campers and will pay each camper's fee for room, board, and most educational materials.

What is AAUW?

AAUW has a rich history of working for the advancement of all women and girls. Founded in 1881 by 17 university alumanae, the organization has grown to represent over 100,000 college graduates across the United States. AAUW-California has 170 branches and a total membership of over 20,000 individuals.

The AAUW Educational Foundation provides funds to advance education, research and self development for women and to foster equity and positive societal change. The Foundation's Eleanor Roosevelt Fund provides cutting edge research in gender equity. Original funding for Tech Trek was provided by the Education Foundation.

Swinton Survey Reveals Young Generation's Frustration At 'Rip Off' Car Costs

According to what is believed to be the UK's biggest ever survey* of young drivers, commissioned by leading insurance broker Swinton, 73% of young drivers under the age of 25 say their social lives are being blighted due to high insurance costs.

The poll, which questioned 2,900 young people on their attitudes towards motoring, revealed that those who can't afford insurance, over a quarter (27.10%) admit they have committed the offence of driving their parents' car wi women's coats thout their own insurance, or know someone who does this.

Over 70% (73.26%) of youths questioned believe that owning a car is a key step to becoming an adult, and a huge number - nearly 90% - believe a car enables them to be independent. But a majority (50.50%) believe motoring costs are a 'rip off'.

Insurance costs for 17-25 year olds have hit new highs with recent reports that average premiums often top ?4,000 per year for young men and ?2,000 for young women .

94.73% of the sample says that high insurance costs are having a negative impact on their social lives. Large numbers of this frustrated generation say that choosing to run their car means they have cut back on buying clothes (27.29%) or holidays (16.93%) and are prevented from going on nights out (27%).

Those that do own and maintain a car reported being used as a taxi service for friends (63.93%), with nearly half (43.39%) claiming their friends fail to contribute to petrol expenses.

When asked if they would be willing to install technology to a car that monitors driving behaviour including speed and hours of driving, with the aim of rewarding safer drivers with lower insurance premiums – 65.92% said they would install the device if it significantly reduced car insurance costs.

However, more than half of drivers surveyed would not refrain from driving during the hours of 11pm and 6am to reduce insurance premiums, indicating that night-time socialising is still an important factor for young drivers.

Steve Chelton, Insurance Development Manager at Swinton said, "We are all aware of the rising costs of insurance for young drivers, but the impact that this is having on their social lives is often overlooked.

"The results from this survey clearly highlight that young car owners feel they are being exploited. It is costing them a fortune to enjoy the lifestyle that previous generations took for granted.

"Insurance companies need to address this issue so that the UK doesn't end up with a stranded and frustrated generation of young drivers, some who are breaking the law in order to drive a car."

The new DownEast Clothing store is located at Outlets at Castle Rock at 550 Factory Shops Boulevard. The store is near Journeys and Rue 21 in the first section of the outlet shopping mall.

Amy Miley, who managed the Littleton location, has moved over to the new store and will oversee a staff of six.
